LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 28, 2009)
FULL TEXT RELEASE
John Schnatter, owner of Calistoga Artisan Sandwiches, announced today that he will serve as honorary chair in The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting Norton Cancer Institute.
"To be a part of this inaugural event is an honor," said Schnatter, an avid cyclist. "We all must do something about cancer, as here in Kentucky incidences of the disease are 40 percent higher than the national average. The time for action is now. I think it's incredible that anyone really can make an immense difference in the fight by joining this cycling event."
The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a two-day cycling trek Sept. 26 and 27, 2009, designed to raise money for clinical research, prevention initiatives, patient treatment and care. The journey ventures from Louisville to Lexington and back, with riders passing through Kentucky's scenic bluegrass country.
"It is extremely humbling to see so many people come together and put forth so much effort," Schnatter said. "I am also inspired by those who have been hit hard by the economy but are still determined to raise money for this worthy cause – cancer does not know what a recession is. Together we can make a difference!"
Calistoga Artisan Sandwiches, a sponsor of a competitive cycling team, will sponsor a breakfast for riders during The Ride to Conquer Cancer.
