The 2015 Ride to Conquer cancer is complete. Everyone involved, from riders, to crew, to friends and family will agree that it was a special accomplishment. Team NOV was created in 2015 and consisted of 41 members 34 riders and 7 crew members. Ask anyone that rode, worked the crew or cheered the riders on, about the ride. They will all say it was one of the most challenging, special and moving events they have every participated in. Truly unforgettable. We all have different reasons for joining the NOV Team but of course fund raising is the common theme. The NOV Cycling Team worked together and individually to collectively raise $119,553 and finish in the top 10 fundraising teams. This is unheard of for a first year team. The funds that we raised go directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation to be used in Alberta.
It is no surprise that Team NOV excelled at fund raising. We started early, worked hard and worked as a team. NOV is respected in the industry and the donations are used in Alberta. It is a winning recipe. What was a surprise is what we got out of this journey that started in December 2014. From a simple idea to get fit, lose some weight and get a new summer activity, the idea grew. We started to train and ride together. The team grew. We met new people and friendships developed. We worked together on training, fundraising and learning about our new sport. Individually this would have been much more difficult. The team brought us together with a common cause and goal. Everything that we put into The Ride to Conquer Cancer was returned to us many times over. The social aspect, the training and fitness and of course the new friends we now have.
Cancer is too big a disease to ignore. It affects everyone; maybe you, me, our parents, kids, siblings or friends. Sadly, we are all effected by cancer in some terrible way. On the ride you see many signs on the side of the road. All inspirational. One in particular is important to Team NOV, “I ride for those who can’t”. We fund raise, train and ride 230kms for everyone we have lost. For all those fighting the battle and those who will fight cancer in the future. By riding in this event we are doing something about it. We ride because we can. We ride for a cancer-free future.
Join us!Team NOV was one of the most successful and organized teams in 2015. We will be taking this success, using what we learn and making it even better. There will be some crew that move to riders and riders that move to crew. We need both, it just depends on what works best for you. Our fund raising will be more organized. We will start training earlier, getting more friends and family working out with us. The 2016 Ride To Conquer Cancer will build on what we have accomplished in 2015. See you at the finish line, I will have a cold beer waiting for you.
