The 2016 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Segal Cancer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital

Bikus Urachus

Welcome to the Bikus Urachus team page.  Our team has come together because each of us has been affected by cancer and we've decided to do something about it.  Our goals are to bring visibility to all cancers, the rare ones and the not so rare ones, and to raise funds to treat and beat cancer.

Bikus Urachus emerged from a cancer. Cancer of the urachus. The urachus is a tube that sits behind the belly button. It is supposed to shrivel away after birth, but in very rare cases can become diseased. This is what happened to our team captain. Urachal cancer accounts for 0.2% of all bladder cancers.

Your ongoing support has motivated us to launch the PanCanadian Urachal Cancer Study - or PUCS, the world’s first urachal tumour DNA sequencing project. Funded through the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, PUCS will allow researchers to find commonalities among urachal tumours and other cancer tumours for which data is available, eventually enabling more targeted therapies for patients.  To make a donation directly to the Urachal Cancer Research Fund, click here:
