I AM BACK for 2010 THE RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER - THIS TIME FOR 200 MILES

Please Support The Ride to Conquer Cancer™

Welcome to my Personal Page.

In only a few short weeks, thousands of people on bikes will begin a journey. This year, my journey will take me from Toronto to Niagara Falls on a 200 mile route. 100 miles per day, one weekend. Miles isn't typo either - 200 miles.

Why?

The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret, is a cycling journey to raise funds fight cancer.

Funds raised in The Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the world.

It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made.

Thank you in advance for your help.

9 Days Later
As I sit here to type this I cannot believe it's been 9 days since this year's ride wrapped up in Niagara Falls. Time sure flies by, but as I think of how many things have happened since June 13th, the Ride seems long long ago.
For myself, I got to have a little vacation in Niagara Falls after the ride. Several good meals, a trip behind the Falls and a ride above them on the Skywheel made for a good time. Last weekend I competed in the Tomatoman Triathlon in Leamington in the duathlon category. (don't care much for race swimming) Although I came in 52 out of 57, I was happy to complete the 2.5k run, 20 k bike and 5k run. I have to say, I would have rather been on a 100 km bike ride that day. Running is whole different set of muscles and skills. I found it quite hard. I thought it would be a good idea to complete since this day also started me off in my fortieth year. So many other things going on to mention, June has been a busy month for sure.
Again, I want to thank everyone who helped me get to and complete the 2010 Ride. For me, I accomplished something I've never done before - bike 100 miles in one day - and I did it two days in a row. (with a lot of help from fellow riders letting me hang out in their slipsteam)
Thank you to everyone who helped with the fundraiser at Colasanti's - Pam, Mom,Dad, Melissa, Fred, Carolyn, Marc (did he do anything, haha) Grandma June, the people at Colasanti's and the Pelee Motor Inn for the great silent auction prize.
And most off all - thanks to everyone who came to the fundraiser and to all who donated to the cause. The money raised from the Ride does such good work. I just found out the other day that a former co-worker's 2 year old child has just been diagnosed with cancer. The exact same night, CTV news made mention of one of their camera guys who just lost his battle with cancer. My thought from both was, "This is why we Ride". The money make advances in the treatment of Cancer. A good friend recently just made this comment - "It seems anymore that its not whether you will get cancer, it when you will".
Photos from our 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer are posted here if you would like to see what we were up to for two days.

Now for next year - well, I hate to tell everyone but I plan on riding in my Third Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2011. Another two days of 100 miles per day on the bike. This time faster and with less strain on the body.
Thank you again to everyone. It was great experience. I wouldn't have gotten there without help.

1 day to the Ride
Since it's officially Friday morning as I type this I can say I am 1 day away from the start of the ride. Still have two sleeps to go thankfully.
I will be riding the 200 mile course this year and the weather reports so far pretty much guarantee that we will all be quite wet by the time we roll into the Falls.
Yet, I am still looking forward to the whole weekend. I have my camera all charged up and will have lots of photos to post.
I would like to thank everyone who helped me reach my fundraising minimum. I think some people did a lot more work that I did - Mom, Dad, Pam. (Who wants to sign of for the 3rd year???)
Thank you all so much. It's going to be a great weekend and a great ride.

Thank You More...
Again, thank you to everyone for the weekend. The total keeps growing from over the weekend. That number is now...
$1170 donated to Conquer Cancer from last weekend's event....
In my haste to type something up yesterday I forgot to mention the Pelee Days Inn in Leamington.
The PELEE DAYS INN offered up a wonderful dinner theatre and overnight stay as a silent auction piece. It bought in a good number direct to the bottom line here. Thank you so much.
Birding season is about to start around Leamington and Point Pelee National Park. You can't go birding without a stop at the Pelee Days Inn.
Again, thank you so much to everyone. It was a nice to see all, I just wish the night didn't fly by like it did.

Thank You
Good Morning all,
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to last night's fundraiser at Colasanti's. And, thank you to everyone who helped out. Especially to Mom and Dad who did so much work organizing and getting the word out.
The food from Colasanti's was excellent. They did a wonderful job last night. Thank you to all who made desserts for the table. There wasn't much left so I think they were all a big hit.
The evening went by in a minute. It seemed like we were just setting up, then there was a small bite to eat and we were packing up the cars again. What a fast night.
Now to business. All together from dinner, the silent auction and some personal donations last nigt we have a grand total of $985 added to help cure this disease.
I hope everyone had a good time out.
Now after eating lots of chicken and pasta, I have even more training to do. 200 miles on the bike is still coming up.
Thank you all again. 7 weeks to go till we hit the road again.

The Fundraiser is ON!
Hello everyone.
As the title says, the Fundraiser is on! Here are the details: It's happening Sunday April 25th at Colasanti's Tropical Gardens in Ruthven On. Time is 6:00 PM. We will be enjoying some great Colasanti pasta and broasted chicken and trying to raise some donations for the Ride.
Tickets are $20 per person, Kids under 13 - only $5. We want to sell in advance so we can give a pretty close number of people coming. But, there a little room for some to show up that night.
It's going to be a fun night and all proceeds will be going to the Ride.
Email or call me for more info or to tell me your coming.
Thanks,
Mike

WOW - Look at the Date
I cannot believe that I am typing this on March 2. This year's ride takes place on June 12 and 13th. That's only 3 1/2 months away from now.
I will be riding 200 miles this year which equals an additional 120 kms from last years total distance. As of today, I must be n full training mode, good diet and exercise to get ready to do two things I've never done before - ride 160 kms in one day and do it two days in a row. So, if you happen to see me at a fast food restaurant, an all you can eat buffet, or even standing in front of a vending machine, you might want to ask how my training is going.
I will need your support. Please donate by clicking on the Donate Now button above .
Thanks,
Mike
