Yes, here I am, doing this Ride to Niagara Falls again in June! Year 2.   And here I am, again asking for your support!

Although it's been 34 years since this disease profoundly touched my immediate family with the loss of my Dad, the memory of the loss stays with me (with us all), as we see friends and other family members being affected in the same way as we once were.  

While it is absolutely sobering, this thing does not have to be the death sentence it once was, with the help of ongoing research as is being done at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

We need to stand as one to raise the funds that organizations like this need to do the work they do best, to make it more and more of a successful battle. 

OK, this may be a weird fundraising message, but to keep it real, here's my caveat:  I have to tell you, I do not subscribe to the commerciality of Cancer Research that has taken hold of the western world.  Of course, some of it is legit and funds are diverted to research, but all those pink things freak me out.  

Through last year's fundraising, a friend and I had a mini debate about the business of fundraising - what's the incentive for a cure to be found as the millions come in?  My gut reaction to the why I'm doing the ride is that it's a personal desire to 'do something', to contribute.  I understand that not 100% of the funds raise go to research, but dollars do get there.

And it's good to have a goal to work toward, for the fitness of it.  

So - Along with the Enbridge team, I'll be back on the my trusty steed, decked out to the nines, loving the scenery, cursing the hills (especially Hamilton mountain at the end of day 1 - it's a b*^#h to have to deal with it at the end of the day, but makes the beer tent even more welcome).  

Still not a jock, but with your generosity, I know I can get there, and in my heart, feel that a real impact will be made through our joint efforts.
