Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
I learned about The Ride to Conquer Cancer shortly after completing my fourth and final round of chemotherapy at the BC Cancer Agency and, even in my weakened state, felt inspired to take on this challenge. I had joked throughout my treatments that I'd race Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France as soon as I was better, but have opted to participate in this very worthwhile endeavor instead (Lance is apparently very relieved...now he has a chance of winning ;).
In late November 2008 I underwent a major surgery at Vancouver General Hospital. One of the motivations for the operation was to determine the effectiveness of the chemo and evaluate the need for further treatments. Just before Christmas I received the best gift I could ever ask for - a clean bill of health. I'm now well on the road to recovery and am feeling motivated as I get back into shape for this two-day cycling journey from Vancouver to Seattle, which takes place on June 20-21, 2009.
I'm very grateful for the outstanding health care that I received at the BC Cancer Agency and feel blessed to have had free and convenient access to a world class cancer treatment facility. I see The Ride to Conquer Cancer as an opportunity to give back to our health care system to help ensure that these levels of excellence continue. On a larger scale, I've taken on this ride to support the research that is being performed by the BC Cancer Foundation and to support them in their vision of "A World Free from Cancer".
I believe that healing occurs on many levels and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who supported me through last year's roller coaster-ride. My wife, Christa, was with me every step of the way and supported me in countless ways - including sharing her amazing talents as a Reiki Master. I also want to thank my parents, David and Helen, my Brother and Sister-in-Law, Alexander and Heather and my good friend Kieran - for making numerous trips from Ontario to be by my side and for all their love and compassion. I'm grateful for the support of my West Coast family, to yoga communities in Vancouver and Ottawa and to friends known and unknown from India to Africa who prayed for my well-being.
I also never miss an opportunity to sing the praises of InspireHealth, an integrative cancer healing centre here in Vancouver - the only one of its kind in Canada. The centre itself has a very positive and uplifting environment and the doctors, practitioners and staff inspire a sense of well-being and exemplify the power of approaching healing from many levels - body, mind and spirit. I would also like to acknowledge my coach, Joni, who worked with me throughout the entire healing journey and helped me to capture the lessons that were available to be learned through the experience of having cancer and to create a vision for an inspired future, in spite of my circumstances.
I have lost many people close to me to cancer over the years - including my Aunt Marilyn and three of my grandparents. I will hold each of them in my hearts as I ride to Seattle. I'm also taking on this ride with the vision of a new friend, Dan, being given a clean bill of health. He was diagnosed with Leukemia around the same time that I received my diagnosis and has been an inspiration to me throughout my own healing journey.
Many thanks for whatever you're able to donate to this worthwhile cause and for your continued love and support.
Love and Blessings, Tim/Rama Singh
