Me towing my friend when he broken his chain (yes, I am towing him with three locks and his broken chain!)

Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®

The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey, from Vancouver to Seattle that I’m embarking on to raise funds to fight cancer.

I've recently found out that someone close to me has cancer and that has helped inspire me to get off the couch and play a more active role in fighting this disease.

Seattle is a long ways away. I was told the bike ride will be about 300km. This is a daunting distance as I normally consider 20km on a downhill slope with the wind behind my back to be a good bike ride. But with all your help I figure I can make it, and help raise some funds in the process.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Continued Riding
Thank you everyone that's been donating, it's a great inspiration to have all your support!
So my training has been going well. I'm riding at least 30km every other day, and interjecting longer 60km rides at least once a week.
My endurance seems to be imporving as well, I can now ride three days in a row and feel like I've had a good workout rather then the abject pain I was in a few months ago. :-)
A friend has loaned me his bike, and what a difference it makes! I'm no longer trying to push along 30 pounds of cast iron on rusty bearings, I'm gliding along on a streamlined machine. Now if only I can figure out how to influence the winds, having the wind at your back is infinitely better then having a head-wind...
Wish me luck with my continued training. And if you know anybody that would be interested in contributing, please feel free to spead the word!

Ride 3.0
So I'm up in Kelowna right now, brought my bicycle with me. Went for a 30km ride yesterday, up into the mountains past Summerhill Winery. Didn't quite make it up to the snowline, but did end up going up the road till it ended and then kept going up an old logging road. Riding around in town is nice and flat, but getting up into wine country is fairly smokey, seems like there must be a lot of pruning going on as there are small fires going on all over the place really smoking up the air.
I'm hoping to keep this pattern up, do at least 30km every other day, and increase that distance when I can. We'll see how that goes :-)

x2 Riding
So that first ride I did out to the tunnel should have been dated April 2nd, as that's when I rode it.
Yesterday I went for another ride, about 35km, went over to Commercial Drive then out around UBC and back home. Met Wolf part way and he rode around UBC with me...he's a bit faster then me, shows me I've got to do some more riding!
Went for another quicky ride today, just 10km of hill riding, from my house down to SW Marine drive and back. I'm pretty sure the wind was blowing against me both ways....I've got to figure out who the Gawd of Wind is and what she wants as an offering to get me on her good side.

Test ride
So I took my first test ride, went 40km roundtrip out along Highway 99 to the tunnel in Richmond.
My butt is sore, and I think the hill going from SW Marine Drive up to 49th ave is like riding straight up a cliff, but next time I do it hopefully I won't be cursing gravity and the wind so much.
Just don't allow any small children near me as I cycle up that hill or they may learn a few new choice words :-)
