Thank you for all your support. When we started this journey several months ago, we had no idea how quickly it would grow. The fact that we were able to raise this type of funding simply through the generosity of our families and friends is incredible. This means so much to all of us on the Brine Brigade. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Next Stop, Seattle!!
Welcome to the Brine Brigade!
On January 19th of this year, we were all shocked to learn that David Brine was diagnosed with brain cancer. Tragically, this is not the first time cancer has afflicted the Brine family. Just this past September, David’s sister, Janet, was diagnosed with breast cancer. In late 1997, David and Janet’s father, Ralph, lost his brief battle with melanoma when it spread to his brain. He was 74 years old and, prior to his diagnosis, an extremely healthy and active adventurer. 2 years ago, one of David and Janet’s younger brothers was also diagnosed with melanoma and is now a cancer survivor.
Janet and David Brine are the inspiration behind those of us struggling with our training. A recent cancer survivor herself, Janet is building her strength back up by preparing to participate in this ride in June! Janet only just completed her treatment in early March. David is currently in the midst of his treatment and will also be joining the Brine Brigade on the ride in June.
There is no greater honour for our team than to ride alongside David and Janet on the ride to Seattle. We are all inspired by their determination to beat cancer.
The Brine Brigade is an open team. While the initial team was entered in support of the Brine family, many of our friends have joined us in support of their own family members. Please take a moment to read our team rider profiles to learn more about each rider’s inspiration to take part in this event.
We’re all here because we know that cancer is too big a disease to ignore. It affects everyone, maybe you, me, our parents, kids, siblings or friends. Sadly, maybe all of the above. But by riding in this event we are doing something about it. We’re rolling closer and closer to the end of cancer. It’s an awesome triumph in a physical sense and emotionally as well.
So hey, join us! This can be your opportunity to do something challenging and rewarding in so many ways. And you won’t do it alone. We will be doing training rides, helping each other to fundraise, and generating awareness for critical cancer research at the BC Cancer Foundation, a leader in cancer research and care.
Please donate to us or join us. If you would like to join the Brine Brigade, you are more than welcome as we’d would love to have you on board!
Thank you in advance for your support.
