So Who's Lloyd?

Have you ever known a person who just seemed like someone you would like to know?

If you knew Lloyd he would likely be that person for you. Vibrant, full of life, world traveler, adventurer, he never seemed to stop. He was a highly competitive person whether he was performing on stage, working at his job, or throwing large round balls down a lane in the "alleys"; he wanted to win. Though as much as he wanted to win he was likely the first to congratulate his opponent if he didn't.

Lloyd made an impact everywhere he went and with all the people in his life; he made them smile, he made them laugh, he brightened their days. His family and his friends adored him and were so very proud if him in all he did.

For someone who had all this and more you would think that they had lived at least one lifetime but sadly he did not. On September 19th, 2009 Lloyd at the tender age of 34 passed away after a 5 month battle with cancer.

The impact that he made in his day to day relationships were attested by the amount of people who came and showed their respects and paid tribute to him in his last days. This was where I first got to know Lloyd, the real Lloyd, even though I had worked with him for over 2 years. It was at his funeral where all that I had observed from a distance about him came to light and also where I thought to myself this isn't fair; that this is an evil disease, this just isn't fair.

I began to think what if he had lived another 34 years; what could he have accomplished; how many more relationships could he have impacted? I also wondered what if this was my family how much more would this horrible disease affect me? I realized that a donation of my money and my time to this cause could someday help eliminate the need to wonder and gave me some control over the uncontrollable.
