Team Hope is named for a great person, woman, mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend Linda Christine Bolding-Jones who passed away January 11, 2009. A great passion for life was not deterred by her illness. Linda educated those in the medical profession,one-on one and with groups she spoke to, about the need to be supportive and to not loose sight of the importance of “hope” when given a cancer diagnosis.
When meeting with her excellent oncologist she once told the story of Dumbo the Elephant who thought he could fly. Linda knew she could not fly, but she also knew that the possibility was there. This story and others are why we are called Team Hope.
For us, HOPE represents what it means to lend a HELPING HAND to those in need be it a friend, a lover, a spouse, a parent. When people are overwhelmed by grief, fear, illness, or whatever, knowing someone cares because they offer a helping hand can make a big difference.
HOPE also is about being OPEN-HEARTED; having the willingness to listen and attend to the needs of the person needing hope. It’s about being open and accepting of the needs and choices of that person.
HOPE is about seeing the POSSIBILITIES of the future having the broader insight to know there could be more than one outcome and knowing that even in the darkest hours, when our hope is diminished, we don’t serve ourselves by denying the possibilities we do not like. Hope means facing all
possibilities with an open-heart.
Lastly, HOPE is about the ETERNAL FLAME we call love - remembering this beautiful flame burns deeply as we are touched by the wonder of love and the pain of its loss. It is this eternal flame that helps us remember how important love and hope are to all of us.
