I have participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer three years in a row. Every year is a very different experience. If nothing else, it is always an adventure. It is not something easily or accurately put into words.
I truly thought 2011 would be my last ride. No real reason. I just felt I was done. There are many who have taken up the cause and I was confident the work would be done without me.
My confidence in the future of the ride and achieving our ultimate goal of a cancer free world is fuelled by seeing so many young, fit, healthy, comitted, passionate people join the ride from year to year. It seems the older I get the younger the people around me on the ride get! Truly hope for the future.
So why did I sign on again for 2012? A few days after returning from the 2011 ride I received an email from a client who I now consider a friend. He asked me if it was too late to make a donation. I responded immediately and said no, please donate whatever you can. Then I got to thinking. While money for research is always needed, did it make sense to add to the 2011 totals or get started on 2012? And so Martin, thanks to your email, here I am...
Good luck to all. And as always, see 'ya on the road...
