AN EPIC RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER
Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Welcome to my Personal Page! The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey, through Canada's Pacific region taking place in the summer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!
I had an early exposure to cancer in my life and with my current job as an orthopedic surgeon, see it all too often. I grew up in Kamloops, BC and the majority of my first six years of life were spent travelling back and forth to Vancouver and Seattle with my parents for my sister's cancer treatments. Karen was unfortunately diagnosed with leukemia at a very young age and spent the majority of her life in and out of hospitals. She had treatments in Vancouver and underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. I was her bone marrow donor and the procedure was successful. Unfortunately, on her return to Vancouver post-transplant, Karen died of complications on the children's ward of Vancouver General Hospital. She was only 8 years old and I was 6 when she died. I am riding in Karen's memory, and in the memory of all those diagnosed with leukemia, with the hopes of raising funds for leukemia and cancer research to contribute to advancing our knowledge of this disease and the treatments that can be offered.
Thank you in advance for your help.
