Robin Bloom, riding with Linnea's Legion
I am a former work colleague of Linnea Mowat, who is the inspiration for Linnea’s Legion. The team with which I ride with for the Alberta Tour to Conquer Cancer.
I have no direct experience with cancer; I haven only been a witness to the toll it takes on family and friends. And from my place on the sidelines of the fights with the disease that I have I felt helpless and unsure each time of what I could do to somehow share the burden of the fight. Or to do something, anything, to make it easier.
Thankfully in more recent years the impacts of cancer were diminished in my circle of friends and family. Until three years ago when Linnea broke the news of her breast cancer. Again the directionless desire to somehow help returned. But this time there was something Linnea’s friends could do to help.
Todd, Linnea's husband, brought together a motley crew of friends, family, co-workers and casual acquaintances under the banner of Linnea’s Legion as one of the many teams who make up the Rides to Conquer Cancer. In doing so Todd gave me, and perhaps others in the Legion, the outlet we were looking for to somehow make a difference. Partially symbolic yet tangible in terms of impact, riding in the Tour was something Linnea appreciated greatly.
Linnea ultimately lost her fight but we ride in her memory. We also ride this year in specific hope for Legion members currently fighting their own battles with the disease. With your support we can make a difference. Both in terms of bringing critical research and support resources to bear on the disease and through simply participating in the tremendous celebration of life and the spirit to fight that the Ride represents.
Thanks for your support!
