We are TEAM FINN. We ride to honour the memory of the amazing Finn Sullivan.
Finn was born in 2005. His twin brother is Baird. His older sister is Sarah. When he was one, Finn was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that afflicts children, called Rhabdomyosarcoma. For Finn the condition included a tumour the size of a grapefruit in his abdomen. Finn had rounds and rounds of chemo, numerous surgeries, and a round of radiation treatment, to put him right. Through all this Finn and his family soldiered on - his parents Patrick and Sam struggled to maintain some conditions of normalcy, and Baird and Sarah shaved their heads in solidarity with their little brother.
Finn amazed everyone who knew him with his courage in the face of increasing pain and a litany of intrusive medical procedures which knocked him down, but never out, and never down for long. In fact, through the balance of his treatment, Finn would bounce back and run and laugh and play (and ride scooters in the cul de sac with Baird), even when a colostemy bag had to become part of his daily life
Finn was finally given a tentative "all clear" by his many doctors in February 2008. But tragically, in the Spring of 2008 the cancer had returned with a vengenace, and had entered his lymph nodes and ran rampant through his little body. He continued to fight the incredible pain and adversity of this condition, until he died at Canuck Place October 9, 2008.
Team Finn is riding to keep faith with this incredible, brave little boy, who touched so many of us, and to make sure that other little kids do not have to go through what he went through. We know that Finn would want us to go further than the cul de sac, so we thought we would join the ride to Seattle.
TEAM FINN really hopes you can help, in whatever amount you can.
On our site is a shot of the ever-speedy Finn, on a trip to San Diego that families close to Finn's went on in June 2008, only 4 months before cancer made the mistake of taking his life.
Please help TEAM FINN show cancer that Finn is not to be trifled with!
