Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer™

A few months ago my dad was diagnosed with oral cancer. Luckily he was able to see a great surgeon at The Princess Margaret within a couple of weeks. He has since undergone surgery to remove all of the cancerous tissue and is on the road to recovery.

I have always looked up to my dad. Seeing him go through the pain, stress and challenges associated with this diagnosis and treatment has been very tough on me. However, I have learned that my dad is a fighter and when he puts his mind to something he sticks to it. His strength and courage throughout this journey have inspired me to help other patients and families fight this disease, just as we are.

So, as my small part to help in the fight against cancer, I am going to participate in the 2009 Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefiting The Princess Margaret. As a member of Team Coombs, with my sister (Stephanie Coombs) and fiancée (Michael Amaral) I am going to ride 200km from Toronto to Niagara Falls to raise money for this world renowned facility and help them achieve their goal of conquering cancer in our lifetime. I think the statement on the homepage of http://www.conquercancer.ca provides the best answer to why we’re doing this: “Because our sweat is nothing compared to their tears. Because our challenge is nothing compared to their fight. Because we are all on one journey, with one destination, one goal: to conquer cancer in our lifetime.”
