Armed With Will and Determination and Grace, Too
I last biked in the Ride to Conquer Cancer in 2011. I was supposed to ride in 2013, but then I blew my knee, parlayed my rider's jersey into a crew t-shirt, compounded the initial injury by blowing the same knee again, and spent the next three years driving a one-tonne truck around rural Alberta. But I wanted to get back in the saddle. More importantly, I wanted to ride alongside one person in particular, so after moving from Calgary to Toronto in 2015 I registered for my first-ever Ontario Ride to Conquer Cancer. Last June I rode as one-half of the Tragically Clipped, alongside my occasional friend/everyday nemesis Kevin Du Manoir. It was my third time riding; it was Kevin's seventh. Together, we raised over $6,000 for Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. (Our name, which became shockingly poignant three weeks before the Ride, had actually been on our radar for years.)
Kevin and I are back again in 2017, and we're bringing a friend along for his first-ever Ride: Jon Thompson, a.k.a. Jonny T, who's helped turn the Tragically Clipped into the hottest power trio since Cream. Between the three of us we're going to raise $10,000 this year.
I'll be doing lots of Ride-related blogging in the coming months. In the meantime, thanks for checking in! And hey, if you're able to slip us a couple dollars, we'll be thinking of some pretty creative ways of saying "thank you."
